DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers still own the best record in baseball at 41-23. But coming off a dismal series split against the last-place White Sox in Chicago, it might not feel that way.

This weekend brings a tougher test -- and a bigger spotlight -- as the Tigers return home to face the other team from Chicago. The Cubs (39-23) have won 15 of their last 20 games and lead the NL Central.

They’re getting huge contributions from some former Tigers, like catcher Carson Kelly, who the Tigers will face this weekend, and left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd, who they will not.

Unlike last year’s late-season surge, which happened so suddenly that there was no time for hype, the 2025 Tigers are drawing real attention before summer has even begun.
