GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — The Grand Traverse County jail lobby has been temporarily closed to the public as engineers assess potential structural concerns within the facility, officials announced Friday.

According to a June 6 Facebook post from the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office , county facilities management and structural engineers are currently conducting a thorough evaluation of the jail to ensure the building’s safety and integrity.

“The safety and security of our staff, inmates and the public remain our highest priority,” officials said in a statement.

While the lobby closure is a precautionary measure, the jail itself remains fully operational. Officials said further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
