BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is warning Mississippians about a popular scam going around.

MDPS says the scam consists of a call or text to residents, saying they must pay a fine or their license will be revoked and/or their vehicle will be repossessed. This is not true.

“Please note, Mississippi does NOT have a Department of Motor Vehicle, Mississippi does NOT have toll roads, individuals would not be contacted via text to pay a fine, and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety website is dps.ms.gov ,” MDPS said in a press release.

MDPS says do not click on any links, pay any fines, or provide any information.
