SAGINAW, MI — Accidental shootings are, by their very nature, preventable. With that in mind, the Michigan State Police is reminding citizens to keep their firearms secure, especially in the presence of children.
The alternatives are just not worth it, especially with a gun-storage law that took effect last year.
MSP posts throughout the state are offering free gun locks to firearm owners, with no limit on how many locks any one person can obtain.
“We don’t ask questions,” said MSP Lt. Kim Vetter. “You can come in and say you need a gun lock. We say, ‘How many?’ and here you go.”
She added the posts have been offering the locks for as long as she could remember, though there is an added focus on the service since Michigan’s safe-storage law went into effect on Feb. 13, 2024. The law
