As the race between Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Josh Kraft heats up, dueling allegations of campaign finance violations took center stage this week.
First, Boston Globe columnist Joan Vennochi reported on potential issues involving a person who simultaneously works with the Kraft campaign and is involved with a super PAC that is pouring millions into anti-Wu attack ads.
Super PACs are meant to be independent groups that can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money, but cannot coordinate with individual candidates and campaigns themselves. Campaign committees, on the other hand, can only receive up to $1,000 each from individuals per year.
