SEATTLE — Seattle is preparing to welcome some of the biggest soccer clubs in the world. The FIFA Club World Cup will hold six matches at Lumen Field between Sunday, June 15, and Wednesday, June 25. Local transportation agencies are preparing for a massive influx of fans.

“During the Club World Cup and throughout the summer, people just need to be prepared for traffic,” said Tom Pearce, a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) spokesperson. “There's going to be a lot of closures out there because it's summertime. It's the best time for us to do work.”

WSDOT has a major closure planned for Friday, June 20. Two northbound lanes on I-5 will close for the weekend at the Ship Canal Bridge. The drainage work overlaps with a Sunday match at noon.
