SALT LAKE CITY — Weeks after getting electricity for the very first time, a 94-year-old Navajo man is recovering after his house burned down.

KSL TV previously reported on Chee Secody, a Navajo Nation man living in Tonalea, Arizona. Secody lived the majority of his life without electricity until Murray City Power and the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority assisted him in getting it wired to his home.

In an email statement, Deenise Becenti with the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority confirmed that Secody’s house had burned down. At this time, the cause is unknown.

Becenti said Secody is uninjured but “lost everything” in the fire. The Tonalea Chapter is asking for financial assistance to help with immediate needs such as food, clothing and blankets for Secody.
