The array of health care-associated infections, ranging from catheter-associated UTIs to Clostridioides difficile colitis, makes preventative efforts complex.

Health care-associated infections (HAIs) are often caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens, leading to many treatment challenges, longer hospital stays and increased costs. Enterococci, including vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), are a frequent gram-positive pathogen implicated in HAIs. They are found ubiquitously in the environment as well as the gastrointestinal tract and the female genital tract. Although they have a naturally more indolent predisposition, enterococci can be the cause of several types of infections, particularly in hospitalized patients whose intestinal microbiota have been disturbed by antibiotic th
