BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Six brand new Baton Rouge police officers took an oath to protect and serve, marking the end of their academy training and the beginning of the next step in their law enforcement careers.

The new officers received their badges during a graduation ceremony on Friday morning, June 6. They completed 22 weeks of training, which is double the state’s requirement.

According to Baton Rouge Police Chief TJ Morse, the things that the police department offers help draw new recruits.

“We have everything from K9 to swat, drones, and technology,” said Chief Morse. “We offer a lot to attract new officers, but it’s definitely something you have to do as a calling for service to the public.”

Another academy starts in July with 20 basic training officers.
