Victor and Darby both received a massive infusion of federal dollars — about $800,000 and $1 million respectively — after qualifying for a grant to improve literacy for Montana learners.

The federal grant, disseminated in the Treasure State as the Montana Literacy Grant, is sent to districts with students living in poverty, who are English learners, or have children with disabilities.

Both Bitterroot schools will be using the funds toward expanding literacy curriculum as two of more than 80 school districts in Montana to qualify for the funding, as determined by the Office of Public Instruction.

Victor will be building off what it’s achieved with its previous infusion of funding from a similar program called the Montana Comprehensive Literacy State Development Program.
