DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A PROPOSAL FROM THE NYC Department of Transportation released on Friday would create new bus lanes on a congested section of Flatbush Avenue.

NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez on June 6 announced the proposed bus lane plan, which is intended to make commutes faster and more reliable for 69,000 daily commuters, to improve air quality and to enhance safety for everyone traveling along one of Brooklyn’s most dangerous traffic arteries.

The full Flatbush Avenue is a Vision Zero Priority Corridor, designating it as one of the most dangerous streets in Brooklyn; 55 people have been killed or severely injured since 2019, according to the DOT.

The proposal includes constructing center-running bus lanes for Flatbush Avenue between Livingston Street and Grand Army Plaza,
