CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A years-long legal battle is ending with a multi-million dollar windfall for Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC).
When he died in 2020, local farmer Herman Stille left $10 million to FCMC in his will on two conditions:
1. FCMC must remain an independent medical care provider
2. The money must be used to establish a cancer center
If those requirements were not met, the money would go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, for Alzheimer’s research.
FCMC says after years of Stille’s will being challenged in court, a judge has now ruled in their favor and stated “The bequest of the residual assets of the estate shall be payable to FCMC to build and operate a cancer center.”
“FCMC is absolutely over the moon with this decision,” says Chief Executive Officer Dawnett Willis
