MINOT, ND (KXNET) — The Minot Police Department has officially introduced a new K9 that went missing months ago.

The dog's name is Freya, and the idea of bringing her to Minot came about when her handler, Sgt. Caisee Sandusky, attended the 2024 IACP Officer Safety and Wellness Conference. She wound up meeting with a breeder named Bluegrass Bernedoodles, who she gave the dog to. The breeder then donated it to the MPD.

Freya completed general obedience training, earned three AKC certifications and a First Response K9 Certification.

Freya will be part of the Comfort K9 program, supporting the mental health of officers and staff within the department, as well as helping with investigations and providing comfort during community-wide tragedies. This program is designed to help address the ps
