DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) - It was a close one, but West Sioux has claimed the 1A Iowa Soccer Championship, the school’s first state soccer title in program history.

The West Sioux Falcons faced off against the Van Meter Bulldogs in Des Moines on Friday, June 6, for the IHSAA 1A Soccer Championship and came away with the victory, the final score being 2-1.

The Bulldogs held the lead for the majority of the game, scoring a goal early in the first period. But with 35 seconds left on the clock, the Falcons’ Flores Topete scored the goal that tied up the game at 1-1, sending it into overtime.

Flores Topete would get the second goal in overtime, the Falcons coming off the field as the 1A State Champs.
