GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Thursday wasn't the first time Denise Weick shared her story and pleaded with Lansing lawmakers in hopes of making change.
"I don't think any family should have to go through what we've been through, or worse," she said, as she sat before the Michigan Senate's Civil Rights, Judiciary and Public Safety Committee.
In fact, Wieck has been before that same committee before. She recounted as she said her son was shot in 2021 by a "ghost gun" purchased and assembled from a kit.
"He's now a chronic epileptic, but he's gone a year and a half without any seizure episodes," Wieck said. "He has major [post-traumatic stress disorder], understandably, as the rest of our family does. He has such anxiety and depression. He almost died a second time because of a chronic seizure. I
