KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said they will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, June 20 in West Knoxville. The checkpoint will take place on Kingston Pike.
During the most recent sobriety checkpoint on March 28 on North Broadway, KPD checked over 600 drivers for signs of impaired driving but made no arrests.
KPD said the purpose of the checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, prevent serious or fatal crashes and increase public awareness of the consequences of driving while under the influence. During the checkpoint, officers will check motorists for signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
KPD said alcohol or drug impairment possibly contributed to at least 10 fatal crashes that occurred in Knoxville in 2024. The department encourages drivers to drive slow, buckl
