SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) - Authorities say a Vermont prison inmate faces new charges after a failed escape.

It happened Thursday evening at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield. Corrections officials say Michael Farnsworth, 36, was spotted trying to open a gate in the transport dock area. They say staff tried to get him to go back inside the facility, but he didn’t listen.

Farnsworth was eventually detained, and officials say he never breached the secured area.

He’s already serving five to 15 years for burglary and now faces several new charges, including disorderly conduct and violation of conditions.
