LOUISVILLE, Ky. — This year marks not just one, but two milestone anniversaries for WHAS-TV — 75 years of broadcasting and 72 years of making a difference through the WHAS Crusade for Children .

First launched in 1954, the Crusade began as a telethon to support children with cerebral palsy. But under the visionary leadership of then-General Manager Vic Sholis, and with the blessing of station owner Barry Bingham Sr., the mission quickly expanded. The Crusade would go on to become the longest-running, most successful local telethon in America, raising funds for children with a broad range of physical, mental, and developmental needs across Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
