Former Lowndes County school teacher, coach accused of sexually assaulting student resigns after arrest

LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - A former Lowndes County Schools teacher and coach is behind bars after allegedly sexually assaulting a student for years, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

Derrick Yarbrough was arrested Thursday and faces multiple sex crime charges, including child molestation, sodomy and improper sexual contact by a person in a position of trust, the sheriff’s office wrote in a press release Friday afternoon.

His arrest comes after deputies said a person reported to the sheriff’s office that they had been sexually assaulted by Yarbrough.
