Former Dayton teacher convicted of misdemeanor in child abuse case

RHEA COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A jury convicted a former teacher in Dayton of only one of five sexual abuse charges.

Michael Arnold was accused of raping a child and sexual battery.

But the jury only convicted him of misdemeanor assault for offensive touching.

Prosecutors say that even though Brock was a math teacher at Dayton Elementary at the time.

The victim was not one of his students.

They describe the victim as under 13 years of age at the time.

Investigators say the contact happened over a five year period almost 20 years ago.
