(FOX40.COM) — The California Highway Patrol will launch a statewide Maximum Enforcement Period, beginning Saturday.

CHP said officers will focus on drivers who are speeding from 6 a.m. on Saturday to 5:59 a.m. on Sunday.
This comes with the Speed Prevention Campaign, as officers plan on increasing patrols and concentrating on drivers who are endangering lives. CHP said its goal is to save lives by lowering unsafe speeds.
According to officials, unsafe speeds are a significant factor in nearly 30% of statewide crashes.
