BEAUMONT, Texas — A Jefferson County jury sentenced a 36-year-old Southeast Texas man to 50 years in prison as a habitual offender Friday after convicting him of shooting his girlfriend in the leg just 12 days after he pleaded no contest to three family violence charges involving the same victim.

Donald Ray Taylor, 36, was convicted by a jury on Friday, June 6, 2025, following the trial in Jefferson County Drug Impact Court, according to a news release from Criminal District Attorney Keith Giblin.

Taylor must serve at least 25 years before becoming eligible for parole due to his use of a deadly weapon and habitual offender status.
