A Summerville resident was arrested Friday afternoon after a man was found in the roadway with a gunshot wound.

On Friday, June 6 around 12:30pm, officers responded to a call concerning a gunshot wound on Oak Street in Summerville. When they arrived, they found the victim laying in the road, unresponsive.

The victim was transported to the Chattooga ER where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the suspect was identified and arrested within an hour when they found him at a traffic stop on Taylors Ridge by the Georgia State Patrol and Chattooga's Sheriff's Office.

Summerville Police Detectives and the GBI are conducting interviews and searches in the active investigation.
