WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - It can be seen from Thompson Park and from the cockpit of airplanes: haze from the wildfires burning in western Canada.
On Friday, the smoke was classified as “unhealthy for certain groups” and had set in thicker than in the past few days.
“If you’ve ever been on an airliner climbing through a cloud, it’s pretty close to that, or a low layer of fog, it’s very close to that. Or if you’re driving down the road and you’re going up and down hills with a low fog, it’s pretty much similar to that,” said Shawn Herrmann, a flight instructor with Angel Aviation.
Herrmann says that while the haze has reduced visibility, it takes a lot to slow down air traffic.
