After more than three years atop a pole outside of Bozeman’s City Hall, city employees lowered the pride flag May 23 to comply with a new state law restricting which flags can be flown on government property.

But city and LGBTQ community leaders are already talking about ways to get around the law.

House Bill 819 , which Gov. Greg Gianforte signed into law May 13, restricts the flags government buildings may display. Allowed are the United States flag, the state flag or official flag of a county or municipality, school district, tribal nation and other flags such as the POW/MIA, Betsy Ross and Gadsden historical flags.
