Detroit — The Tigers optioned infielder Andy Ibanez to Toledo and purchased the contract of Jahmai Jones on Friday in a series of moves to “reset the roster” ahead of a series against the Chicago Cubs this weekend at Comerica Park.
Detroit also designated outfielder Akil Baddoo for assignment, in order to open the roster spot for Jones.
The main animus for the Ibanez-Jones swap, Tigers manager AJ Hinch said Friday, was giving Ibanez a chance to fix some things in the batter's box, as the right-handed hitter has struggled against left-handed pitching of late, particularly in his role as a pinch hitter.
“He has looked off at the plate,” Hinch said after announcing the move on Friday.
In his last 14 appearances for Detroit, dating back to a series opener at St. Louis, on May 19, Ibanez w
