For the second time in five seasons, a flock of Griffins is soaring into the Illinois Class 1A baseball state championship.

Father McGivney beat Pawnee 16-1 in the state semifinals behind 12 runs across the second and third innings, needing four innings to win by run rule.

After surviving the super-sectional round against Jacksonville Routt in extra innings, the Griffins cruised Friday at Illinois Field in Champaign.

"Just keep piling it on," Father McGivney head coach Chris Erwin said of the message in the dugout. "(When) you've got a chance to put a lot of runs together and put it out of reach, you certainly do in a game like that."

Friday was Father McGivney's eighth win of at least 15 runs this season, which almost triples the amount of losses it has (three).
