GRANITE CITY, Ill. (First Alert 4) - A motorcycle driver was killed in a crash in Granite City on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Granite City Police Department, just before 4 p.m., an officer saw a motorcyclist driving in the area of Maryville Road and Parkview Drive who had a warrant for their arrest for parole violation.

A spokesperson for the police department said the motorcyclist sped off when the officer attempted a traffic stop. The motorcyclist was then involved in a crash at the intersection of Maryville Road and Pontoon Road.

The driver, later identified as Montie Eugene Ritchie, 34, of Granite City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Illinois State Police is investigating the incident.
