(CNN) — The Egyptian man accused of carrying out an antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colorado, was charged with one count of a hate crime during an appearance in federal court Friday afternoon.

The latest charge comes a day after Mohamed Soliman, 45, was charged with 28 counts of attempted murder after he allegedly used a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails to set people on fire during a downtown event held to support Israeli hostages in Gaza.

The firebombing attack occurred on the eve of Shavuot, a Jewish holiday. The attack, which happened less than two weeks after a separate antisemitic attack in Washington, DC, where two Israeli Embassy staff members were shot dead, has sparked widespread fear across the Jewish community.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 18 at noon
