NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, which is a time to recognize the toll gun violence continues to take on communities across the country.
One local organization paired up with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Department and Charleston County Council to spread awareness on gun violence in the Lowcountry during a conference at the Lonnie Hamilton Headquarters building.
The Positive Vibes Ronjanae Smith organization was founded by Ronald Smith and Katrina Sinclair, who lost their daughter Ronjanae to gun violence at 14 years old.
Ronjane’s father founded the non-profit in his daughter’s name, conducting community events to help end the violence. Ronald Smith says he gets through the pain by spreading awareness in Ronjanae’s name through the organization
