Syracuse, N.Y. — Mayor Ben Walsh is responding directly to people who feel new fencing near the Syracuse Rescue Mission is "caging" them in.

The city and the Syracuse Police Department said this is another joint attempt to keep criminal activity out of the area and stop bad actors from preying on clients trying to access services.

Rachel Monahan said, "They're putting us all on display by putting us in a cage. We're not in jail. So why should we have to feel like we're in jail?"

"As a homeless man, I would never go into something like that. I'd rather sleep on the streets before I go behind the fence like that and feel like I'm in another prison cell," said Tryail Martin.
