KITTERY, Maine — A crash on Interstate 95 Friday morning led authorities to intervene in a mental health crisis on the Piscataqua River Bridge.
According to Maine State Police, the initial crash involved two vehicles on the southbound side of the bridge, just before the Maine-New Hampshire border. The incident was reported around 9:11 a.m.
Minutes later, another driver reported seeing a man attempting to jump from the bridge.
Responding agencies included Maine State Police Troop G, the Kittery Police Department, and officers from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Kittery police reached the man and were able to safely take him into protective custody for a mental health evaluation.
Investigators believe the man was heading toward the bridge intending to take his own life when the crash occurre
