More than $3 million in donations has been disbursed to survivors and families of those killed in the New Year’s Day Bourbon Street attack, the Greater New Orleans Foundation announced Friday.

Melissa Dedeaux’s daughter was one of the 14 people killed in the early morning hours when a man plowed a pick-up truck into a crowded French Quarter street.

The money is a small band-aid on a gaping wound, she said, one that can’t ease the pain of losing her daughter, 18-year-old Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux.

“Money can't bring my daughter back, but at the end of the day, sometimes some things help with peace,” she said.
