Suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez pleaded not guilty on Friday, one day after he was arrested on felony charges.

Lopez was placed behind bars after statewide prosecutors said he was involved in an illegal gambling enterprise since August 2019, while he was a deputy for the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

He's facing the following charges:

One count of racketeering, a first-degree felony.

One count of conspiracy to commit racketeering, a first-degree felony.

Legal experts say racketeering is a type of organized crime involving illegal activities, most often for financial gain.

A judge granted Lopez a $1 million bond during his first court appearance Monday morning.
