Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes will be undergoing Tommy John surgery, per multiple reports. Burnes left his last start on June 1 after visibly reacting after throwing a pitch.
Huge blow for the D-Backs, who signed the 30 year old righthander to a 6 year, $210 million contract this past offseason — a deal that was less than he was expected to command, and that Burnes chose to do in part because his offseason home is in Arizona. Burnes had a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts this year. Burnes won the Cy Young Award while with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021, and has finished no lower than 8th in the Cy Young balloting every year from 2020-24.
Burnes will presumably be out until at least August of 2026. The D-Backs are currently in 4th place in the National League West, at 31-31,
