WESTWEGO, La. — The U.S. Coast Guard ended a 36-hour search on Thursday for a missing construction worker who reportedly fell into the Mississippi River near mile marker 110.
The missing man, described as an African-American and last seen wearing coveralls with reflective tape, was working on a barge when the incident occurred. The Coast Guard received the initial report at 11:12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3.
The search effort involved multiple Coast Guard units, including Air Station New Orleans and Station New Orleans and Venice. They covered about 268 miles along the river, from mile marker 110 down to mile marker 0.
After nearly a day and a half of searching, officials suspended the operation at about 1:50 p.m. Thursday.
