SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WETM) - It's finally June! We're just a couple of weeks away from the start of summer, so now is the perfect time to start taking care of your bushes in your garden.

Bushes like hydrangeas and rhododendrons require pruning. Once the flowers die back, you can clip off the dead flowers with scissors. This is important to do now because the plant is going to flower off of next year's wood.

Pruning isn't advisable to do later in the season either, because the plant will be preparing for next year's buds by then.

Other plants in your garden also need some TLC. Plants like petunias aren't a fan of heavy rain. When plants get rained on a lot, they can start to have patches, and it won't look as nice. The petals can also fall off and create other problems.
