BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The new North Dakota Military Gallery is expected to open in 2027, with groundbreaking coming this summer. To stay prepared, the State Historical Society is seeking specific items to add to its vast military collection.

The roughly 10,000-piece military collection housed in the archives of the State Historical Society spans uniform, foreign and domestic firearms, artifacts and war trophies from the Civil War to the Global War on Terrorism.

These items include a machine gun recovered from a German aircraft, A U.S. Army Air Corps personalized flight jacket from World War II, and even personal items.

“A belt buckle from Fort Rice, south of Mandan,” said Research Historian Lori Noehner.
