SHREVEPORT, La. — Fewer Caddo Parish students are skipping school, according to new data from the Louisiana Department of Education.

The latest report shows truancy is down by 5% compared to last year. Despite the improvement, more than 2,300 students were still reported absent during that time.

Officials say students aren’t just avoiding class — many are facing serious challenges that keep them out of school.

The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office attributes truancy to a number of underlying issues, including mental health struggles, poverty, lack of school uniforms, and domestic violence in the home.

To address these root causes, the DA’s office partnered with the Caddo Parish School District to take a proactive approach to keeping students on track.
