LA CROSSE - Just a short while after launching the second-longest discus throw in the history of U.S. high school athletics at the Stratford regional, Marathon thrower Chris Marcell has once again tattooed his name into Wisconsin’s record books.

The junior thrower completed another record-breaking performance at the WIAA state track and field meet at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex in La Crosse on Friday, June 6, breaking Division 3’s shot put record by more than a foot at 61 feet.

The historic launch breaks a WIAA state track and field meet record that’s been held tight for more than two decades.

The previous record was set by Cambridge thrower Kurt Malnar in 1997 at 59-9.25.
