PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — With the weekend heat up ahead, concerns for heat and fire safety remain across the state of Oregon.
KOIN 6 Senior Meteorologist Kelley Bayern spoke with Noah Alviz, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Portland office, about areas of concern this weekend.
"Not only are we getting hotter, we are getting drier," Alviz said. "Our relative humidity is dropping. We are forecasting humidity to get into that 30% range. Those are two very important factors when it comes to fire weather."
Winds are another factor in fire danger and rapid fire spreading. Thankfully, forecasts are showing winds this weekend will stay on the lighter side and are not of major concern.
