TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a dozen bills into law Thursday, with two focusing on Leon County.

House Bill 4073 aims to update the Leon County Sheriff’s Office employment procedures that have been in place since 1980. The new law, effective immediately, also describes the sheriff’s authority and simplifies the appeals process.

Rep. Allison Tant (D) Tallahassee, filed the bill .

“This bill will help provide both the Sheriff’s Office as well as its employees needed updates to facilitate as an institution,” according to a written statement from Rep. Tant.

The second Leon County-focused bill signed into law addresses inmate medical costs.
