LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -50 years of giving the love of reading to local students. The nonprofit, Reading is Fundamental, continues to foster children’s curiosity and learning by providing them free books.
Open the door to room 33 at Lansing School District’s Welcome Center and you can find shelves upon shelves of books.
“Who doesn’t live giving books to kids?” said Rachel Peake, a parent volunteer.
The nonprofit organization gives kids free books, three times a year, that they can keep at home.
“Reading is fundamental. And that’s exactly what RIF stands for. It can be fun, if you let it,” said Frances Walker, a parent volunteer.
Each story has a world of words, allowing students to reflect and see themselves in the pages.
“That’s where you develop your love of reading, is getting to t
