Year Two of Viva Avila in the St. Louis University men’s basketball program should be very interesting. If nothing else, it will be worth watching how senior center Robbie Avila responds after a year that put him in a new environment and tested his mettle in multiple ways.

After he became a national darling at Indiana State during the 2023-24 college basketball season when his on-court exploits, his 6-foot-10, 240-pound frame and the goggles he wears on the court earned him colorful nicknames such as Cream Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Nerd, Larry Blurred and Milk Chamberlain, Avila dealt with injuries, expectations, adjustments to both a new team and new league as a first-year transfer to SLU.
