SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Savannah Impact Program partnered with local city officials to help educate younger people on the real-life consequences of guns Friday.

City leaders spoke to elementary age kids on engaging in violence. Deputy criminal chief Greg Gilluly touched on a shooting in Statesboro that involved a 4-year-old who shot himself with a gun that was not stored properly.

"I think one of the biggest problems is kids who are curious who will touch guns and as a result of playing with the gun, they get killed," Gilluly said.

Savannah Impact Program officials told WSAV that they believe bridging the gap between young people and police officers is something that will help encourage young people to make the right decision.
