OWASSO — The Cherokee Nation is officially ready to embrace the film industry.
During a Friday event at Cherokee Film Studios in Owasso, Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. signed a proclamation declaring the Cherokee Nation Reservation “film-ready,” a first among tribal nations.
“You always want to lead, and I think the Cherokee Nation is a leader in a lot of things,” Hoskin said in an interview following the ceremony.
Once upon a time, Hoskin wouldn’t have imagined that the film industry was something in which the tribe would lead because that seemed so unattainable.
“But we have moved at a fairly quick pace, the Cherokee Nation, in terms of building our capacity for lots of businesses, and this is a bu
