HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- The WC Handy Blues and Barbecue Festival is coming up and organizers are making final preparations for the event.

It starts next Wednesday through Saturday at Audubon Mill Park in Henderson. It's a celebration of the life and legacy of Henderson resident William Christopher Handy, who spent nearly a decade in the city during the late 1800s.

Handy Fest PR and Marketing Chair Anita Watkins says the festival has become one of the largest free music festivals in the nation, drawing people from nearly every state.

Organizers say coolers, alcohol and pets are not allowed in the park during the festival per city ordinance.
