LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Smallmouth bass just lost one of their favorite places to spawn in the Colorado River below Glen Canyon Dam, according to a Thursday news release from the National Park Service.
The water is moving again and the temperature is cooling down 3.5 miles past the dam after workers cleared a shallow slough where the river splits around a sandbar. The site, about 12 river miles upstream of Lees Ferry, Arizona, is the latest battleground in fighting the invasive smallmouth bass, which presents a threat to the humpback chub, which is federally protected.
