CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry on Friday, June 6, announced his candidacy for the Alabama Public Service Commission (APSC). Gentry told The Tribune he is running for Place 1.

The APSC has three members. Place 1 is currently held by Commissioner Jeremy H. Oden. Place 2 is currently held by Commissioner Chris “Chip” Beeker. APSC President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh resigned last week because she was appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as the U.S. Department of Agriculture state director, Alabama rural development. Gov. Kay Ivey, also on June 6, appointed Rep. Cynthia Lee Almond, R-Alabama, to replace Cavanaugh.
