TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — The Tempe Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own, after an officer passed away last week following a cancer battle.

Officer Drew Nystrom died on Saturday, May 31, at the age of 52 and was laid to rest on Friday.

“With heavy hearts, we honor the life and service of Officer Drew Nystrom, who served the Tempe community with quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering dedication,” the department posted on Facebook .

Nystrom was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in December of 2023, the same aggressive brain tumor that killed Sen. John McCain.
